About Engelbert Strauss e.s. Advent Calendar Edition 8
Engelbert Strauss's eighth tool advent calendar is a red Merry Christmas box holding 55 pieces behind 24 doors, and this year the calendar is built from two of the workwear brand's STRAUSSbox x-small organiser cases, one black with a foam insert and bit holders in the lid, one transparent with two dividers, that clip to the rest of the Straussbox system. The doors hold a quarter-inch tool set: an ergonomic 72-tooth reversible ratchet, a 75 mm extension, a bit adapter, nine hex sockets from 4 to 13 mm, a two-component handle with adapters, a magnetic bit holder and a precision one, 33 S2-steel bits (ten torsion impact, five standard, eighteen precision), an aluminium blackline cutter with a ten-pack of spare blades, a knife pouch and the Strauss key tool.
The brand's data sheet prints the whole 55-piece list with sizes. 49.86 EUR from strauss.com in Germany, 50.28 GBP in the UK, 50.28 EUR in France, 232.35 PLN in Poland and 523.75 SEK in Sweden, in stock with two to four working days' delivery, limited while stocks last.

Our verdict
A quarter-inch socket and bit kit in two clip-together organiser boxes, which is more coherent than most tool calendars: the ratchet, sockets, handle and cutter are the tools, the 33 bits fill the rest of the doors, and the boxes mean it is a kit on 25 December rather than a drawer of loose bits. For about 50 EUR it is fair against Bosch and Wera's boxes, without a stand-out tool.
