Fishwife, the Los Angeles tinned fish company, has made its first advent calendar: a blue book-shaped box titled The Magical Fishwife Advent Calendar, drawn with skaters, a snowman and a sardine on the ice, with 12 doors of tinned fish and a few extras. Fishwife keeps the doors a surprise but lists the ingredients of what is inside, which names ten of the twelve: smoked salmon in olive oil, sardines with preserved lemon, little sardines, mussels with sweet pepper and garlic, albacore tuna with Spanish lemon, smoked sockeye, smoked salmon with Fly By Jing chili crisp, chocolate sardines, a mini Tabasco and a Bag Balm x Fishwife tin of skin balm.

Seven proper tins of Fishwife's fish, from preserved lemon sardines to the chili crisp salmon, plus chocolate sardines and a Bag Balm tin, is a good sampler for someone already into tinned fish. At this price for twelve doors it is a fan's box rather than a bargain.
